Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre has 2 openings for Trauma Counsellors to join their dedicated team that is committed to ending the cycle of sexual abuse & assault by providing specialized intervention, counselling and preventative education to individuals, families and communities in North Region of Alberta.
This is a flexible contract position, and can be remote. The Outreach Counsellor services the DCSC region which includes Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Slave Lake, and Wabasca. Possibility for travel may be required.
Trauma Counsellors will:
- Provide individual counselling services and support to clients aged 4 plus including, but not limited to, intake, assessment, case planning, and follow-up.
- Assist with referrals to and accessing of appropriate community resources.
- Support client towards self-efficacy and personal wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decision-making.
- Collaboration in providing education and awareness community support including facilitation of workshops, presence at local community events and initiatives, and participation in community based inter-agency meetings or committees.
- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors, in order to supplement and enhance client service provision.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or other Related Fields; Bachelor of Arts with relevant experience or post grad certificate with registration (or capacity to) with a professional body may be considered.
- Registered or eligible for registration with appropriate professional association
- Knowledge of community resources and familiarity with Indigenous culture and history within Canada
- Comprehensive knowledge of client-centered interventions, practice methods and professional skills
- Able to travel to assigned service areas
- Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook), and electronic records management system
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An understanding of gender issues, social justice advocacy, diversity and anti-oppressive practice are an asset
- Criminal Records check, Child Intervention Record check, valid Alberta Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle
