ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College has an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR and Compliance Assistant to support the College’s Human Resources department. Reporting to the Director, HR and Compliance, this position works closely with the payroll team to process semi-monthly payroll for casual and contract employees, as well as members of the Board of Governors. The HR and Compliance Assistant provides direct support to the Director, HR and Compliance, as well as to the HR department by serving as the first point of contact and administering key programs such as employee recognition, the tuition bursary program, and performance management.
Responsibilities include:
· Process semi-monthly payroll for non-salaried positions. Assist with other payroll functions such as maintaining personnel files, preparing salary adjustment and verification of employment letters, tracking timesheets, and responding to payroll inquiries.
· Process and respond to general and confidential correspondence for Human Resources, including internal and external requests and inquiries.
Maintain HR website pages, intranet site, organizational chart, records and filing systems.
· Provide admin support duties in the areas of occupational health and safety, emergency management, legislative compliance and enterprise risk. This include preparing for meetings and taking minutes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Post-secondary education in Office Administration or Business. Equivalencies may be considered.
· Several years’ experience in business or office administration, ideally in an HR setting with experience administering payroll.
· Experience working with, and interpreting, legislation, collective agreements, policies, guidelines and procedures.
· Strong computer skills, especially advanced working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio. Experience using Enterprise Resource Programs and/or payroll systems.
· Strong communication, time management and multitasking skills are essential, and the ability to work in an open, high-traffic environment.
· The ideal applicant should also have a strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll calculations, data entry and record-keeping.
· Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
