The Role
Serving as the Town of Bonnyville's primary communications professional, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic communications, public engagement, marketing, and branding initiatives. Reporting directly to the Strategic Priorities Director, you will provide communications expertise across all municipal departments to ensure consistent messaging and meaningful stakeholder engagement. This is a highly autonomous and collaborative role where you will work closely with various departments to promote economic development opportunities, municipal programs, and community events.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual communications and engagement strategies aligned with Council's Strategic Plan and organizational priorities.
- Serve as the primary communications resource for all Town departments.
- Manage and continuously improve the Town's website and digital communications platforms.
- Produce engaging content including photography, video, graphics, stories, news articles, and digital campaigns.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with local, regional, and provincial media representatives.
- Develop communications that encourage public participation and stakeholder involvement.
- Serve as the Town's designated Public Information Officer (PIO) or alternate PIO during emergency activations and significant municipal incidents.
- Support the Economic Development Officer by developing communication and promotional materials that advance economic development objectives.
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, marketing, public engagement, or a related field.
- Experience in municipal government, public sector, economic development, tourism, recreation, or a related environment is considered an asset.
- Exceptional written, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- The ability to attend evening and weekend meetings, events, and engagement activities as required.
- Ability to respond to emergency communication situations outside regular business hours.
- Incident Command System (ICS 100 and 200) certification is considered an asset.
- Public Information Officer (PIO) training is considered an asset.
- Emergency management or crisis communications experience is considered an asset.
