ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College intercollegiate athletic program is actively seeking an Athletic Therapist/Trainer to work with head coaches and other staff. You will be committed to the College’s ideal of excellence in post-secondary athletics and will work in an environment that promotes student/athlete success in athletics, academics and community involvement. Some key responsibilities include:
· Athletic training coverage and medical coverage during practice and games, as well as Voyageurs camps and training camps
· Evaluating and providing assessments on player injuries to appropriate staff during games and day-to-day operations
· Maintaining and submitting insurance claims to Hockey Alberta and other insurance providers
· Facilitating communication with players to physicians, coaches and any other medical staff on player status and well-being
· Preparing a team emergency action plan
· Maintaining a fully stocked medical kit
· Coordinating with the Manager on purchases of equipment and other supplies needed to operate the medical department
· Sharpening skates for practices and games
· Preparing workout and rehabilitation programs
· Working with Univerus software to track injuries
· Working with HeadChek Health software to track concussions
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C)) certification
· University or college education in athletics. Equivalencies may be considered
· First Aid certificate
· Hockey Alberta Safety Person (HCSP) course
· Experience working with a sports team and its athletes would be considered an asset
· Highly flexible to accommodate late afternoon or evening practices and weekend competitions
· Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check and driver’s abstract.
