ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Community Social Work team at the Cold Lake campus.
Our Community Social Work program is a two-year diploma offered at both Lac La Biche and Cold Lake campuses.
A key part of the Community Social Work program is its ability to combine social work theory with practical experience through a 320-hour supervised field practicum. The program additionally provides 30 hours of integrated seminar time per year of study to best prepare our grads to work in the human services field. Key responsibilities include:
· Classroom and distance educational instruction.
· Preparation and delivery of subjects.
· Assisting curriculum development and/or revision
· Development of exams, quizzes and other materials for student evaluation.
· Assisting in the organization and supervision of student practicums.
· Assisting in management and evaluation of student progress in the program.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Master’s degree in Social Work in addition to several years’ experience in a field of social work
· Experience working with Indigenous, northern, and rural communities will be considered a definite asset.
· Current registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
· Knowledge of Indigenous culture and previous working experience in Indigenous communities would be considered a definite asset as the program has related coursework.
· Adult teaching/tutoring experience would be considered beneficial.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management System would be an asset.
· Strong computer skills, especially with MS Office, is essential.
· Some travel and a flexible schedule is required for organizing and supervising practicum visits.
· Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
