We offer a range of services, including emergency shelter, counselling, education, and advocacy, all aimed at empowering our clients to overcome their challenges and achieve long-term stability and safety.
The Crisis Intervention Specialist provides essential services to women and children requiring emergency shelter due to domestic violence, crisis situations, or homelessness. Working as part of a professional team, the C.I.S. contributes to the empowerment of clients using a trauma-informed and client-centered approach. This role involves maintaining building security, providing supportive services via a 24-hour Help Line, and assisting with the daily operations of the shelter.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Admit and discharge clients to the Emergency Shelter, ensuring all documentation and forms are accurately completed.
- Perform intakes and initial assessments to determine immediate needs and provide necessary support.
- Orient residential clients to shelter policies, procedures, and programming.
- Assist in developing and implementing daily client activities and group programming.
- Respond to the 24-hour helpline, providing crisis intervention, community information, and referrals.
- Respond promptly and effectively to crisis situations to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Advocate for clients with various agencies and make referrals to outside community resources as required.
- Transport clients to appointments and assist with daily duties such as cleaning, cooking, and laundry.
- Coordinate and participate in case conferences, group sessions, and individual client meetings.
- Provide on-call coverage and emergency shift coverage as assigned.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff members and students.
- Maintain accurate and detailed client documentation, including assessments, case notes, and progress reports.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Registered Social Worker (Degree) or post-secondary education in a related field.
- 2-3 years in a similar role with a working knowledge of the dynamics of family violence, addictions, suicide, and other social issues.
- Proficiency in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and case management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License free from restrictions.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check.
- Standard First Aid/CPR, ASIST Certification, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training considered an asset.
