Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic
Schedule: 5/2 Rotation (Tuesday – Saturday, 10-hour days)
Location: Cold Lake, AB

Comec Energy Services is seeking a highly motivated, skilled Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our growing team. In this role, you will perform skilled diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on a wide range of heavy equipment both in the shop and at client field sites.

Position Summary
The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled mechanical repairs and routine maintenance on heavy trucks and specialized fleet equipment, including Combo Vacs, Straight Vacs, Semi Vacs, Tank Trucks, Pressure Trucks, Hydro Vacs, and other units as assigned. While work assignments are provided via written or verbal work orders, you will be expected to independently diagnose issues and determine the scope of required repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize Health and Safety by adhering to all company policies, safe work practices, and regulatory standards.
- Complete daily safety documentation, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Hazard Identifications, and incident reports.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries to supervisors.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental compliance and proper housekeeping.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical defects in heavy-duty oilfield equipment.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs in the shop and respond to field service calls as needed.
- Work independently under the direction of the Lead Mechanic.
- Stay current with industry technology, repair techniques, and equipment updates.
- Represent the company professionally by adhering to client-specific rules, industry regulations, and site protocols.
- Complete accurate and timely paperwork, including maintenance logs, work tickets, and daily timesheets.
- Adapt positively to changing daily priorities and operational needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic trade certification in good standing (Alberta).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Proven abilities in hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, schematic reading, and diagnostics.
- Prior oilfield and specialized truck fleet (vac/pressure/hydro vac) maintenance experience is preferred.
- Self-motivated, dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Asset / Site-Specific Tickets: Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Fall Protection, CSTS, and any additional client-required training.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Must be physically fit and comfortable working in varied environments, including outdoors in harsh weather conditions.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to pass a pre-access Fit-for-Work medical evaluation.
- Must successfully pass pre-access, post-incident, reasonable cause, and random Drug & Alcohol testing.
