ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College has an exciting opportunity for an Applied Research Facilitator to support the growth of applied research across the institution. Reporting to the Director, Applied Research, this position coordinates and supports the effective delivery of applied research services, providing guidance in proposal development, research administration, data management, knowledge mobilization, and stakeholder engagement. Working collaboratively with faculty, Research Chairs, students, administrative units, and external partners, the Facilitator aligns stakeholders with institutional priorities, funding requirements, and best practices. Some of the responsibilities include:
· Facilitate and coordinate applied research projects, supporting proposal development, approvals, risk identification, and timely completion of deliverables and reports.
· Advise faculty and Research Chairs on funding requirements, College policies, ethics, and compliance to ensure funder-compliant and strategically aligned applications.
· Support research financial administration, including budget development and monitoring, financial compliance, documentation, issue resolution, and funder reporting.
· Develop and maintain standardized research processes, tools, and operational frameworks to improve efficiency and consistency across applied research activities.
· Maintain the College’s Research Data Management framework, ensuring compliance with data security, privacy, intellectual property, and retention requirements.
· Monitor compliance with legislation, institutional policies, and best practices, identifying risks and recommending corrective actions as needed.
· Coordinate research meetings, communications, and outreach activities, including agendas, minutes, and tracking action items to completion.
· Identify and communicate funding opportunities and build and maintain relationships with research partners and community organizations to support collaborative initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Social Sciences, Humanities, or Development Studies; a graduate degree or equivalent education and experience may be considered.
· Minimum two years’ experience in research coordination, research administration, or a related post-secondary or research-focused role; experience supporting a research centre, team, or lab is considered an asset.
· Project Management certification is considered an asset.
· Demonstrated knowledge of the Alberta and Canadian research ecosystem, applied or community-based research practices, research ethics, and institutional research processes.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with attention to detail and sound decision making.
· Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and virtual collaboration tools such as Zoom.
· Experience managing professional social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn and X) for communication or outreach.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively.
· Willingness to work occasional evenings or travel as required to support proposal deadlines, conferences, or research events.
· Successful applicant will be required to provide a current Police Information Check.
