ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is actively seeking a highly motivated and engaged individual with experience in food service industry to join our team of instructors in our Professional Cooking program. Some of the responsibilities include:
· Deliver engaging theory and hands-on lab instruction.
· Develop learning materials and assessments tailored for adult learners.
· Support student success by providing timely feedback and evaluations.
· Promote and enforce safety protocols in both classroom and lab settings, in line with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
· Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
· Continuously improve instructional practices to enhance student learning.
· Maintain current knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements to ensure program alignment with industry best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Journeyperson Cook Certificate with a minimum of two years’ experience in first-class establishments as a chef, sous chef or cook.
· Preference will be given to candidates with a Red Seal certification.
· Membership in a Chef's Association would be an asset.
· Adult instruction/tutoring experience would be considered beneficial.
· Current industry standard safety certificates.
· Excellent communication, administrative and organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management System would be an asset.
· Strong computer skills, especially with MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
· Physically capable of performing tasks involving heavy lifting up to 55 lbs.
· Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
