The Cold Lake Primary Care Network is committed to improving primary care services in the Lakeland and surrounding communities by implementing a collaborative approach to care between physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals.
The Cold Lake Primary Care Network currently operates three clinic locations. Our main clinic is located on the second floor of the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre. We also have two satellite clinics: one on the second floor of the CANEX Mall at CFB Cold Lake, and one within the Elizabeth Métis Settlement Community Health Services building.
The Medical Office Assistant provides administrative and clinical support and plays a key role in our organization. The successful applicant must possess:
· Excellent organizational, communication (both written and verbal), and time-management skills, high attention to detail and the ability to always maintain confidentiality
· Proven ability to multitask, remain professional under pressure, work well both individually and with a team, and possess exemplary customer service skills
· Technical prowess, including proficiency with MS Office suite, email, staff scheduling applications such as WhenIWork, and elearning applications such as Citation and Corridor
The responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to:
· Assist with varying daily tasks to ensure the smooth running of clinic operations such as patient registration, appointment booking/rebooking, cancellations, cleaning patient rooms, and taking patient vitals
· Provide chaperone support during patient appointments and assist physicians and nurse practitioners with minor in-office procedures
· Ensuring all phone calls, faxes, and other forms of communication are answered and re-directed as necessary
· Health records management utilizing the Accuro EMR
· Complete/manage referrals to and from the clinic
· Review and process incoming faxes and other documentation related to referrals, recalls, and consultations
· Ensure that specimens and their requisitions are processed and filled out correctly
· Coordinating collection of payments for uninsured services, and reconciling end-of-day financials
· Prioritizing and completing tasks according to urgency
· Cleaning clinical areas as necessary
· Other duties as required
Preferred assets:
· Post-secondary education in medical office administration/medical office assistant
· Minimum 1-year relevant experience in a medical setting
· Experience working in a community-based primary care setting
· Applicants must possess strong English language skills, including the ability to clearly speak, read, write, and understand English
· Effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and team members is an essential requirement of this position
· Familiarity with electronic medical records systems (ideally Accuro)
· Medical terminology, transcription, and general pharmaceutical knowledge
· Developed problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse patient demographic
· Valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle
· Clear criminal record check (required)
· Valid CPR certification (BLS course)
