Stepping Stones Crisis Society is seeking a passionate and experienced Food Services Manager to join their team!

They offer a range of services, including emergency shelter, counselling, education, and advocacy, all aimed at empowering clients to overcome their challenges and achieve long-term stability and safety.
The Food Services Manager will lead the planning, preparation, and delivery of nutritious meals and food programming for Stepping Stones Crisis Society’s organizational needs, while ensuring compliance with safety and nutritional standards. It involves directly supporting kitchen operations, supervising staff, managing inventory and budgets, engaging the community, and contributing to program development and administration.
This role is full-time and offers benefits, RRSP, and competitive compensation. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to support events, as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement weekly nutritious meal plans for the emergency shelter while following the Canadian Food Guide and individual dietary needs
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals for shelter residents, ensuring adherence to meal plans and dietary needs while ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
- Supervise kitchen operations and programming staff
- Maintain inventory and manage food purchasing, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budget
- Provide administrative oversight for all food services programming, ensuring the development, coordination, and evaluation of cooking classes, food literacy workshops, and community kitchen sessions
- Manage food services calendars, program objectives, and scheduling in alignment with client needs and organizational goals
- Build relationships with community partners and foster partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders
- Administer program budgets, prepare reports, and support fundraising and grant application efforts
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate food services into case management and client care
- Coordinate food service components for internal and external events, including menu planning and meal preparation
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting templates, and procedures for all food services programs
- Foster a trauma-informed and inclusive approach
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Community Development, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in program development, group facilitation, and community outreach
- Demonstrated knowledge of food safety, healthy cooking, and nutrition principles
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers is an asset
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Excellent organizational, time management, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach to service delivery
- Valid Food Handler Certificate
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions
