Stepping Stones Crisis Society is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced full-time Assistant Manager to join their Social Enterprise team at their two retail locations in Cold Lake: Ella’s Closet and Orbiting Trends team!
Stepping Stones Crisis Society is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by domestic violence and crisis situations. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where those in need can find refuge, support, and resources to rebuild their lives. They offer a range of services, including emergency shelter, counselling, education, and advocacy, all aimed at empowering clients to overcome their challenges and achieve long-term stability and safety.
The Assistant Manager supports the Social Enterprise Manager with the daily operation and management of employees, volunteers, inventory and business operations to contribute to the ongoing success of fundraising efforts, meeting clients’ needs and team retention.
Key Responsibilities
1. Store Operations & Team Leadership
- Implement and follow approved procedures for opening/closing, security, and cash handling
- Support sales associates with daily tasks, customer service, and merchandise management
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming retail environment
- Model professional behavior and uphold high standards of conduct
- Assist in recruiting, training, and scheduling staff and volunteers
- Communicate inventory needs to the Social Enterprise Manager
- Report operational, maintenance, and health/safety issues promptly
2. Inventory & Donation Management
- Screen, sort, and handle donations per acceptable guidelines and health and safety standards
- Report large or special donations for recognition and pricing
- Enforce resale policies for recalled or prohibited items
- Ensure proper disposal of unsellable goods following environmental regulations
- Accurately categorize and price
- Comply with Alberta Recycling Management Authority regulations
- Train staff on safe handling of potentially hazardous items
- Coordinate with agencies for hazardous waste removal or large-scale diversion
3. Cash & Financial Duties
- Track and report cash discrepancies
- Prepare and verify daily bank deposits and cash floats
- Ensure staff purchases follow policy and manager approval
4. Online Auctions & E-Commerce
- Assist with planning, posting, and promoting online auctions
- Photograph, describe, and list items on auction platforms
- Package and prepare sold items for delivery or pickup
- Track sales and report results to management
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year’s work experience in the retail industry
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Class 5 Operator's License with acceptable abstract
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly organized, flexible, independent, culturally sensitive and detail oriented with the ability to multitask
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
- Able to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion
