Position Summary
The Bonnyville and District Historical Society is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Museum Technician to join our team for the summer season! This role is a fantastic opportunity to gain diverse, career-related experience in heritage management while helping us share the rich multicultural history of the Bonnyville District.
As a Museum Technician, you will play a key role in the daily operations of the Bonnyville and District Museum. You will work under the guidance of the Museum Manager to assist with everything from historical artifact care to grounds maintenance and public tours.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the cataloging (accessioning), cleaning, repair, and storage of historic artifacts and paper documents.
- Greet guests with high-level customer service, answer questions, and lead informative tours of our twelve historic buildings.
- Provide creative input for designing engaging displays and assist with special events and fundraising efforts.
- Help maintain our beautiful three-acre grounds and buildings through cleaning, painting, and landscaping (planting, weeding, and watering).
- Support day-to-day office tasks and assist with marketing and sales in the Museum Gift Shop.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Intermediate to advanced English-speaking skills are required. French-speaking skills are considered a valuable asset.
- Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and moving throughout the landscaped grounds.
- Must be able to work most weekends throughout the summer.
Employment Details
- Approximately 16 weeks, starting around May 1 and ending roughly August 25.
- Start and end dates are flexible to ensure the best fit for the right candidate.
