Boreal Horticultural Services is seeking applications for a Reforestation Project Coordinator with a passionfor taking a disturbance from bare soil to the beginnings of a functioning forest!
Boreal Horticultural Services specializes in silvicultural reclamation for industrial disturbances across Western Canada. They are a small group of professionals offering seed collection, stock production, seedling establishment, reclamation consultation, and site monitoring services. Their clients include prominent members of the environmental, oil and gas, and mining industries reclaiming disturbances of forest land.
The Reforestation Project Coordinator will work collaboratively with a small team but also enjoy working independently outdoors to coordinate the propagation and establishment of reforestation stock from seed procurement, through nursery production to planting for our valued clients.
This full-time position is a newly developed role created through company growth. It is based in Bonnyville, Alberta, at the Bonnyville Forest Nursery office, with remote travel to client sites throughout Western Canada required during the field season.
Responsibilities
Primary duties will vary by season and include:
- Business development, project estimation and implementation.
- Coordinating nursery stock production to meet reforestation schedules.
- Developing site specific prescriptions to establish free to grow reforestation on reclaimed disturbances.
- Manage planting subcontractors, on-site supervision and quality assurance.
- Providing post-planting monitoring of the reforestation stock on reclamation sites.
- Maintaining responsive client communication and reporting through all stages of the project.
- Assisting the financial controller with client invoicing and other duties as required.
Competencies and Experience
- Proven silvicultural experience in a forestry or reclamation setting is required.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management discipline (eligible for professional designation).
- Strong project management skills, including costing and developing completion timelines.
- Proven leadership and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and a small team.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Client management and subcontractor supervision.
- Seed and vegetative material collection and processing.
- Nursery stock production and reforestation monitoring.
